The 2025 Easter Post: A Prayer Through Psalm 40

I wait intently upon the Lord, knowing He has heard my cry for help, help in the midst of a season of loneliness, of striving and feeling stuck, a cry for help waging war against my own sin, my own lack of gratitude, my own blindness to the goodness of the God I cry out to. The Lord has brought me up from a desolate pit, and He will draw me up from the pit of destruction once again, establishing my steps securely upon He Who Is My Rock—my footsteps will ever be firm upon Him.

The Lord gives me a New Song, a Hymn of Praise to Our God, so that many will see and know and humble themselves before the Lord, assured they can trust in Him. For how happy, blessed, and content are those who put their trust in the Lord, who make Him their hope, over the proud liars and arrogant self-deceivers of the world.

Lord, Your wonders are many, without count, unable to be fully told even if I were to give all of my minutes on this earth to speak of them, and Your plans for us are incomparably amazing, better than the flimsy, weak ones we dream for ourselves, for Your thoughts are always towards us.

Lord, You do not delight in blood sacrifice nor require a sin offering from us, for You gave us Your Son, Our Savior, Jesus Christ, who You foretold through the Prophets and the Psalms, He who delights perfectly to do Your will and who fulfilled Your Law completely. Open our ears to the Truth about Jesus, and may our steps follow His in obedience.

I shout of glad tidings about Jesus to the world, to those around me in my workplace, in my home, in my community; may my lips not be restrained to speak of the righteousness, the faithfulness, the salvation the Lord has given to us; may Your constant lovingkindness be known to the world this Easter, and may the Truth bring exceeding joy and celebration.

Lord, You will not withhold Your compassion, Your constant love and truth, as we face the troubles—the evils!—of the world, which surround us and threaten to overrun us. You will continually preserve and guard us. Lord, if the evils of the world were not enough, we are also overtaken by our own sins, which blind us and prevent us from seeing the Truth about You and Your goodness. When our hearts forsake us and are tempted to despair, make haste to deliver and help us, O Lord.

Let those who seek to destroy Your people be confounded and humiliated; may they come to know You and surrender to You, Lord. May those who desire our hurt and harm be ashamed and dishonored; may they be like Paul and meet You in powerful redemption.

Let all who seek You rejoice and find perfect satisfaction in You. We shout continually of Your greatness, of Your salvation!

Lord, I am needy; my need is too much for me or my friends to bear, Lord, but it is not too much for You. I know You are mindful of me, for You are my Helper and Deliverer.

God, do not delay. Bring Your Kingdom in full, and may the return of our Savior draw ever nearer.

Amen.
